China criticized former U.S. senator who supported Taipei and publicly criticized U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken for expressing his thanks to Taiwan’s new president, underscoring how the region’s position divides the two powers.
In response to Blinken’s remarks at a regular push briefing in Beijing, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, said on Tuesday that it was a” serious infraction of the political commitment made by the United States to maintain just cultural, industrial, and other illegal relations with the Taiwan region.
The comment by the U. S. ‘ best minister sent” a really bad sign to the Taiwan separatist causes”, Wang said. He added that Beijing had filed a political problem with Washington, and called on” the U. S. to quickly correct their mistakes”.
Blinken welcomed Lai Ching-te on Monday shortly after he assumed office as Taiwan’s new leader. The Biden presidency official added that his country was eager to work with Lai and other 23 million-persons on the politically administered area to improve “our shared interests and values.”
Also on Tuesday, Beijing announced restrictions on past U. S. Congressman Mike Gallagher, accusing him of meddling in China’s domestic affairs and harming Foreign independence, according to a speech on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s bill on Twitter.
In February, the former head of the Communist Party’s House Select Committee met with then-President Tsai Ing-wen as they traveled to Taiwan. Gallagher demanded that Washington “arm the beach to the teeth” in an op-ed in January to stop Chinese military harassment.
China opposes countries with which it has formal ties who may have diplomatic ties, such as Taiwan, which it considers to be a part of its territory and which it may use force to bring under its control in the future.
The U. S. is Taiwan’s major political and military admirer, irking Beijing. Joe Biden, the president of the United States, has made a number of promises to protect Taiwan in the event of an attack.
Lai has indicated that he will pursue many of the laws of his predecessor, Tsai, including embracing the U.S.
Due to this position, relations between Taipei and Beijing are likely to continue to be uncomfortable in the coming decades.
