Apple News + has grown to be an unexpected source of income, offering a sizable supply of direct income and expanded market reach as digital producers struggle with declining customers and profits as a result of Google’s haphazard tests with AI in research and Facebook’s engine changes. In reality, it appears as though Apple has merely set up a mud fund to support the business media’s fake news crooks.
According to Semafor, some modern producers found themselves struggling by the end of 2023 in the face of declining clicks from Twitter as a result of algorithm shifts and uneven search traffic as a result of Google’s tinker with requests. But, a new backbone emerged in the form of Apple News+, a relationship program that has proven to be a lifeline for struggling papers.

In late 2023, the leftist publication Daily Beast joined the Apple News + plan and set up paywalls to make its unique information available to paying Apple users. The Beast exceeded its standalone subscription program’s potential without incurring significant additional costs, coming in at between$ 3 and$ 4 million in revenue from Apple News alone this year. Obviously, Apple’s mud account for business media will help the Daily Beast in pushing false news stories, such as its claim that Hunter Biden’s” Computer from Hell” was stolen.
The Beast is just one release that is able to use Apple News+. Professionals from big internet businesses, including Condé Nast, Penske Media, Vox, Hearst, and Time, have all reported large income streams from the relationship. Day, for example, considers Apple News as one of its most essential partners, delivering 7- figure monthly income and attracting 5 million unique visitors in a single fortnight.
Apple News, with its free type being the most commonly used media app in the United States, the UK, Canada, and Australia, boasted over 125 million monthly people in 2020. The launch of News + in 2019, following Apple’s acquisition of the startup Texture, marked a deepening business relationship between the tech giant and news publishers.
Over the past two years, Apple News + has rapidly expanded its partnerships, adding dozens of local and regional newspapers to its roster. According to the time that viewers spend on each piece, the company grants licenses to articles from publishers ‘ paywalls and makes payments each month. Publishers are also free to place advertisements on their content and retain all product recommendations and reviews that result in affiliate links.
