Florida’s Rick Scott joined the competition to be the Senate’s second Republican president on Wednesday, telling colleagues in a text that “we need a spectacular ocean change to protect our country. ”
“ I am running for president because I believe our Conference may be governed to better perform what each of us came here to do, ” Scott wrote. “ I hope this year’s command elections did give us the opportunity to select leaders who will enable each of us represent the hopes and dreams of our citizens. ”
He joins South Dakota Sen. John Thune, now the No. 2 Senate Republican, and Texas Sen. John Cornyn, a previous Senate Republican punch, in the race for president.
Senate Republicans often hold authority elections in November, after the common election.
Assuming they maintain that plan, Scott first has to get his own election. He was first elected to the Senate in 2018, when he defeated Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson by 0. 2 percentage points. Democrats are trying to make this year’s culture aggressive, but Florida’s politicians have shifted to the right in the last six years and it ’s considered to be less of a jump position than it used to be. Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales costs the race as Good Republican.
After chairing the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2022 pattern, Scott challenged Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell for president , earning 10 seats in the closed-door vote. In February, McConnell announced his ideas to step down from Senate management at the end of this Congress.
In his text, Scott said Senate Republicans may work more in line with what Democratic voters are looking for. He said that Senate Republicans may integrate more closely with Republicans in the House and lamented that “the Senate far too often passes legislation that is supported by 100 % of the Democrats, and only a third of our Republican Conference. ”
“It’s no solution that Democratic voters believe we don’t struggle hard enough for the issues they care about, ” Scott wrote. “Republican citizens believe our country is going down the wrong path and expect us to fight again harder against the loss Biden and the Democrats are bringing to this country. ”
Democrats already have a 51-49 running bulk, which includes three separate senators. But one Democrat, West Virginia’s Joe Manchin III, has said he will never get election, and his couch is likely to turn to the GOP in November. If Democrats lose another desk, or if Republicans win the White House, the Senate will be under Democratic control next month.
Scott said that the future president may be limited to a six-year name. He even called for following a “realistic plan ” for the budget process and for payments to go through council and become subject to a “robust amendment process. ”
Scott highlighted his connection with Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nomination, noting that they’ve known each other since before either ran for democratic business. In December, Trump endorsed Scott’s election this month, and praised him for being “the single person who has been willing to take on the very dangerous very RINO, Mitch McConnell. ”
Scott predicted that Trump did returning to the White House next year and that Republicans will handle both the House and Senate come January.
