Citizens worry more about President Joe Biden’s expansionary and open border policies than former President Donald Trump’s abortion coverage, Cook Report/BSG/GS Strategy Group poll confirmed Thursday.
The poll appears to confirm that Trump’s immigration and financial messages sabotage and destroy the attraction of Biden’s most famous 2024 issue, health care, and so largely diminish Biden’s social appeal.
Pregnancy is a state problem, Trump’s plan basically dictates, while Biden believes it is a national issue. Biden holds higher acceptance marks on the issue of pregnancy, but his approval of pregnancy does not overshadow Trump’s common economic and recruitment policies, the ballot found.
The Cook Political Report’s Editor-in-Chief Amy Walter and Senior Editor David Wasserman described the statistics behind the connection of the cross-pressures:
Among all voters, 73 % ranked Inflation/Cost of Living as one of their top three issues, while 52 % named Immigration/Border Security and 35 % named Abortion/Reproductive Rights. Even among women, abortion ranked third ( 73 % inflation, 48 % immigration and 42 % abortion ) and among independents, abortion/reproductive rights ranked fourth.
When we asked voters which worried them more, Biden setting economic policy or Trump setting policy for abortion rights, 55 % said they were more worried about Biden handling the economy than they were about Trump setting policy on abortion ( 45 % ). In fact, apart from Liberals, the only other demographic group that was more anxious about Trump setting abortion legislation than Biden setting monetary policy were college-educated people.
On immigration, a top issue for voters in these swing states, 53 % of voters said they were more concerned about Biden setting immigration policy in a second term, while 47 % were more concerned about Trump setting abortion policy.
The surveys surveyed 3,969 electors in seven battleground state from May 6 to May 13, 2024.
The Cook Political Report observations were initially explained by a very respected democratic political scientist, Ruy Teixeira , a foreign senior colleague at the American Enterprise Institute. He wrote an in-depth study that examined democratic “cross-pressures ” between multiculturalism and health care concerns among the 2024 public.
The discourse of “cross-pressures” identifies a group of voters who support both America First immigration policies ( detainment deportation, asylum restrictions, and a border wall ) and Biden’s most common general scheme of Medicare cost negotiation.
In eight sets of data encompassing the connection of “cross-pressures, ” Teixeira argued Trump’s emigration plan sabotages and affects the interest of Biden’s most popular topic and thus largely diminishes Biden’s political charm in 2024.
Teixeira underpinned his study with Biden’s generally low polling and Trump’s dominance in bounce state, both reported by Breitbart News.
