Leaders in the New Jersey beach city of Wildwood shut down the boardwalk early on Monday morning and declared a state of emergency to deal with the “numerous instances of legal unrest” involving both young people and children.
Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano, Commissioners of Public Safety Steve Mikulski and Krista McConnell, along with the Wildwood Police Department ( WPD), issued a press release in which they revealed that they had received” an irrepressible number” of calls related to “young adults and juveniles” who were described as being “unruly” and “undisciplined”.
” Wildwood does not tolerate rebellious, irresponsible, unparented children nor will we stand by while the laws of the state tie the hands of the police”, Troiano said in the speech. We firmly believe in the City of Wildwood Police Department’s efforts to protect this neighborhood from the obnoxious masses on our boardwalk and throughout the area.

The WPD responded to an “irrepressible number of calls for assistance in the City of Wildwood” on Saturday night, according to authorities in the joint media release.
In response, Wildwood leaders distributed assistance requests to a number of organizations in Cape May County.
According to officers,” we were also unable to listen to some calls for service within the town for a period of time” due to the high volume of calls, according to the press release.
Chief Joseph Murphy informed the city’s commission and the City of Wildwood’s coordinator of emergency management on Sunday that the” legal unrest” on the boardwalk was causing “emergent circumstances” to arise.
Based on the observation, a “local crisis emergency was declared” earlier Monday morning:
The City of Wildwood was able to properly deal with various instances of civil unrest and ensure the safety and security of our residents and visitors by putting in place a state of emergency on May 27, 2024, which included the closing of the seafront.
A 15- yr- older boy was apparently stabbed by an unfamiliar suspect on the boardwalk. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
