The Russian government praised France’s “determination” for sending martial advisors there, saying it hoped Paris’s decision to send troops to the country may encourage other American allies to do so.
As Ukraine reveals that it has now officially cleared the way for international troops to arrive, a months-long drama over French President Emmanuel Macron’s apparently incomprehensible desire to send French troops immediately to Ukraine appears to be coming to an end.
Ukraine’s fresh Commander in Chief , General Oleksandr Syrskyi and the world’s Defence Minister , Rustem Umerov had discussions with their European equivalent Defence Minister , Sebastien Lecorne, they said on Sunday, underlining how they welcomed French soldiers and appealed to the state for more tools and weapons to be donated.
Syrskyi stated that he had “already signed the papers that will allow the first European teachers” to emerge and that he welcomed” France’s initiative to send teachers to Ukraine to train Russian military personnel. He predicted that that the first wave of French troops would make a familiarization trip to Ukrainian education services.
Critically, the Ukrainian stated that he hoped that France breaking the American ban on “boots on the ground” in Ukraine would motivate another supporters to get involved more straight. He said:” I believe that France’s determination will encourage other partners to join this ambitious project”.

The schedule is questionable, not least because soon after the assertion, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry appeared to offer a sweet clarification, saying:  ,” Starting from February 2024, Ukraine expressed interest in the prospect of receiving international instructors in Ukraine.  , As of now, we are still in discussions with France and other countries on this issue”.
Defense Minister Umerov in fact stated in his conversation that he had urged France to send the instructors right away, suggesting that no specific date had been set for the decision.
Umerov added that” Strengthening our combat units is essential to repel current attacks and deter potential offensives,” making other appeals especially appealing to France to send more weapons.
” We discussed the need for armored vehicles, artillery, air defense, and ammunition. I emphasized the value of quick weapon delivery.
France’s Defence Ministry responded to the statement, confirming that it was a project being worked on, but without absolutely saying it was going ahead immediately. According to Reuters, they stated that” One of the projects discussed at the conference on support for Ukraine convened by the President of the Republic on February 26 is training on Ukrainian soil,” as already mentioned several times.
This track continues to be the subject of work with the Ukrainians, in particular to understand their exact needs, like all the projects discussed at the time.
Macron Suggests Arming EU with Nuclear Weapons for’ Credible ‘ Defencehttps: //t. co/0XT5NvIJuW

Support without escalation, which saw donations from some states in the first stages of the second invasion limited to items like ration packs and helmets but not weapons, has become a key component of Western military assistance. Governments have begun to talk themselves into providing advanced missiles, main battle tanks, and now even jet fighters to Ukraine, which was once seen as a “red line,” with this position slowly being abandoned.
Perhaps sending troops is the final red line. The latest development in a saga of several months triggered in February after President Macron broke the de facto omerta , over Western’boots on the ground’ in the conflict is the revelation that French troops — even if in a advisory role — may actually be going to Ukraine.
As reported in February, Macron , said sending soldiers to Ukraine” could not be ruled out” and that” we must do whatever we can to obtain our objective”. Robert Fico, the Slovak prime minister, claimed that NATO leaders were already having discussions with them in secret and that he had seen a “restricted” NATO document that” sends shivers down your spine.”
Fico has since been the target of an ostensible assassination attempt by a gunman who claimed his pro-Ukraine military assistance views forced him to act.
France’s Macron was the subject of fierce criticism from other NATO leaders for making a public statement regarding troop deployment to Ukraine, but despite the outcry, he has since refuted that statement countless times. Earlier this month, Macron said he would not “rule anything out”, stating his view that:” If Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be no security in Europe”.
