The attorney general of Baja California’s state of the union on Wednesday denied reports that Tijuana is on pace to tear all-time data for murder.
Tijuana’s crime rate has increased 20 % since last year, according to a recent report from the city’s Citizens Security Council.
It says violence statistics provided by Mexico’s Office of Statistics was used to produce its decisions.
Additionally, according to the group, crime in the city has increased by 31 % between 2021 and 2021.
The Citizens Security Council continued to publish the following statistics, which indicate that Tijuana has increased violence in some areas:
- Home burglary up 26 %
- Company assault increased by 65 %
- Street assaults/muggings up 47 %
- Business extortion increased by 46 %
Deaths in Tijuana, through last year, were approaching 800 for the year, someone Miguel Ángel Gaxiola, head of the Baja attorney general’s killing section, does n’t claim.
But he insists that this year’s murder rate and homicide rate are on line with previous year’s.
” We are still seeing the same techniques, and believe me, it’s no gratifying to declare we’re getting five to six deaths per day”, Gaxiola said. ” We’ll keep working to strengthen studies and prosecutors to reduce violence,” said one spokesman.
He stated to reporters on Wednesday that Tijuana’s downtown area and the Otay neighborhood on the west side of the city are the areas where crime is most prevalent.
But Roberto Quijano Sosa, head of the Citizen’s Security Council, says statistics do n’t lie.
” The first quarter in 2024 saw a huge increase in crime compared to other times”, he said. Sadly, Tijuana is turning out to be the most violent time previously.
Domestic violence is up 14 %, according to Quijano Sosa, while real-estate fraud and cybercrime are up 45 %.
Regulators will likely claim that the numbers are rising because more people feel more comfortable about reporting crimes, but that’s not the case; more acts are being committed, according to Quijanao Sosa. In spite of increased police spending and a larger National Guard appearance, violence is worse than it was ten years ago.” We are at the base at the national stage.”
