A initial- year , Euclid , police agent in his 20s was shot to death Saturday evening in what officials describe as an “ambush” after officials responded to a disruption on , East 211th Street.
” While officers were investigating, a shooter ambushed an officer, striking him with gunfire. The officer was transported to an area hospital but did not survive his injuries” , , Euclid , Mayor , Kirsten Holzheimer Gail , said in a statement released Sunday morning.

According to Yost,” the criminal who ambushed officer Derbin may be discovered and will get full justice.”
By Sunday evening, neither the attorney general nor the officers had any additional information about the shooting’s causes. One native told , cleveland.com , Sunday that officers arrived after neighborhood people called when they heard photos from a group. Residents of the area immediately reported to WKYC that they had heard about 12 photos during the occurrence just before 10 p.m.
WKYC reporters early on Sunday observed authorities using drones, a plane, and a police dog in addition to military gear to aid in the search for the suspect, who was identified as 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn.
Vaughn was identified as a light Volkswagen Passat with a temporary passport dish of R947155, according to the Attorney General’s office’s release of pictures of him as part of a Blue Alert.

Cuyahoga County , court documents list a , Deshawn Vaughn , of , Euclid , and of the same time as pleading guilty in 2021 to receiving stolen property and having arms under a disability. He received a nine-month jail sentence.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction , said that this Vaughn is wanted for violating the circumstances of his control, warning on its website:” This person should be considered risky and probably armed. Do not try to capture this individual. Visit your neighborhood law enforcement agency or dial 911.
Dawn Marie Derbin, Jacob’s family, shared a picture of her brother on her , Facebook , site captioning it “my warrior” next to a broken heart emoji.
It is a cruel irony, Yost said, that a mom lost her son on Mother’s Day and that this crime occurred as we paused to mourn our fallen during Police Memorial Week. My heart burn with indignation at this inequity, for the home of this young officer and the , Euclid Police Department”.
Derbin graduated from the , Kent State University , authorities club last year and was in his early 20s, a spokeswoman for Yost said.
Derbin was sworn in by the president in July, according to a previous , Euclid Police Department , social media post. In May 2023, Digbin’s social media profiles revealed that he had enlisted in the military and had engaged in.
Gov.  , Mike DeWine , ordered , U. S.  , and , Ohio , colors to be flown at half- team at all common buildings and premises throughout , Cuyahoga County , and at the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the , Rhodes State Office Tower , in , Columbus , until twilight on the day of the death.
” In the midst of the horrible decline of our devoted official, we find ourselves grappling with a deep sense of sorrow and disbelief”, the governor said her speech. This is a time for us as a society to unite in solidarity and support, not only to respect a hero who devoted her life to us and gave us protection from others, but also to give strength to one another in this difficult time.”
