Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA ) claimed on CNN’s” State of the Union” that New York Judge Juan Merchan should take into account former president Donald Trump’s remarks regarding being imprisoned while receiving a sentence.
Sunday on Fox News Channel’s” Fox &, Friends Weekend”, Trump said,” I think it would be difficult for the public to take, you know at a certain level, there’s a tearing place”.
Do you believe it would be harmful for the country if Donald Trump were to be sentenced to jail, according to guest host Kasie Hunt,” Considering that the punishment is likely to occur, just nights before the agreement and weeks before he’s the Republican nominee for November”?
Schiff continued,” No, I do n’t think it will be dangerous for the country, and we have seen Trump slam dissent outside the courthouse that never materialized.” However, I believe this is what Donald Trump is trying to achieve. This is largely his danger that if he is imprisoned, he will encourage his supporters to climb up. And on January 6, we witnessed the potentially fatal effects of that. Therefore, I do n’t believe the general public will respond to that call. I hope the terrible knowledge of January 6 taught us anything.
He added,” It’s quite clear what Donald president has suggesting around. This is something I believe the judge should be taking into account, not just because the judge is not going to be intimidated by that threat, but because this defendant not only does n’t take responsibility but is also willing to harm people, just like Trump is prepared to violate the gag order and possibly endanger witnesses, jury, the judge himself, or family members, as that’s something that the judge ought to be taking into account.
