Demanded completely food at its ‘ Dining Hall Liberation ‘ show
The University of California Santa Barbara’s pro-Hamas camp just received a positive review in the student newspaper, claiming that it has become” a place of society, pleasure, and rise.”
The so- called “UC Santa Barbara Liberated Zone” is now an “autonomous society” according to the Daily Nexus, where “participating students and community members everywhere” you partake of several activities such as meditation,” Palestine train- ins”, and listening to “music for liberation”.
UCSB’s camp has been existing for about five months and counting.
Members of the new Liberated Zone are still hoping to “reach the tables with University leadership,” according to Anushka Dastidar of The Daily Nexus, but they have instead “focused on “giving back to the community,” forming bonds among its users, and fostering a good understanding environment.
The LZ has” no distinct chief or governing committee”, and its members “rotate” responsibilities (areas include” protection, media, medic]ine], outreach and demands ) in what they dub a” parallel leadership construction.”
People who want to join the campment are given the option to join the committee of their choice at orientation. Once onboarded, members have the option to be involved in any other committee’s conversations, ensuring everyone’s voice is equally heard, according to Bradley.
The organization has set out to uphold these standards by holding regular community check-in meetings and incorporating open discussions about topics like global liberation and open consciousness into their programming. …
The encampment’s organizers stated that they want to make it a secure environment where students can practice their religion and spirituality. The encampment’s Muslim Students Association ( MSA ) regularly convenes for prayer sessions in public. Journaling and mental health checks, facilitated breathwork, and coached yoga and meditation classes are also frequently held.
The Liberated Zone uses art to build community, through art workshops, poetry readings and more. During music sessions, participants are encouraged to bring instruments and mix up their music. Most recently, the Liberated Zone staged an Arabic music performance on May 25.

Printings and chalkings to hang up or scrawl around campus are among the art workshops at LZ. One LZ member was” disheartened” that chalkings often are washed away by maintenance in the middle of the night, chalk” is washable” so it’s not” vandalism,” the member said.
The Liberated Zone held a discussion on the” traditions of revolutionary mothering” as well as a recognition of the mothers ‘ struggles in Palestine on the weekend of Mother’s Day.
Unsurprisingly”, many homeless “have found their way to the LZ where they’ve gotten” shelter and solace “in addition to free food. In fact, the LZ held a” Dining Hall Liberation/Free Food Now! “protest last week:
The Black Studies Department held a “day of interruption” earlier this year at UCSB to express its disapproval of administrative measures taken to protect Jewish students. A pro-Hamas demonstration at the Multicultural Center in February featured placards that read Zionists were persona non grata.  ,
The UCSB Feminist Studies Department released a statement in early March stating that its faculty members were “unflinching lovers of freedom and proud members of the collectives at UCSB fighting for Palestinian liberation and an end to the genocide in Gaza.”
