In response to the dramatic rise in incidents and the death of actor Johnny Wactor, TV icon Jay Leno rails against the light punishment California authorities have implemented for catalytic converter criminals in his house position.
The former Tonight Show sponsor, who is also known for his extensive collection of vintage cars, claimed it is absurd that those who steal catalytic converters are only subject to a small,$ 1,000 fine.
When Johnny Wactor, a General Hospital professional, confronted criminals who he caught stealing the chemical from his vehicles and were shot down by the criminals as they fled the scene of the crime, one of these thefts ended up being fatal next month. Wactor, 37, died in hours at the field.
Leno claimed that one of the reasons criminals are so obvious is because of the soft-on-crime effects of catalytic robbery.
Additionally, it is incredibly annoying for car users who have been hit by these criminals. For one thing, it is forbidden to take a transformer out of a car, and a broken one can result in a large fine. However, the maintenance may cost them thousands of dollars. Worse, because there have been so many thefts, long waiting lists at maintenance shops, and a queue for the parts, it may take several months to complete the work.
The thieves steal the converters because they contain a number of costly metals in, which they then remove and exchange for cash.
According to Leno, the crooks only receive about$ 20 per converter when they steal so many of them.
