After the White House called to tell him that he was not invited, the Democratic governor of a Texas border city said he will not be attending President Joe Biden’s professional get signing in Washington.
As the head of a tiny border town that is at the heart of the early 2021 illegal immigration crisis, Eagle Pass, Texas mayor Rolando Salinas has been openly critical of the Biden administration.
The White House called me. It was n’t an offer, Salinas said in an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner on Monday.” Just to let me know that they were making an announcement tomorrow,” Salinas said. Is that the invitation they made? No. … I was vocal against the White House when we were getting slammed]with illegal immigration ]”.
Another Texas leaders, Ramiro Garza of Edinburg, John Cowen Jr. of Brownsville, and Oscar Leeser of El Paso, all confirmed to the Washington Examiner on Monday that they had been privately invited to Washington for the professional order- filing Tuesday.
In a statement, Leeser said,” We are appreciative of the funding we have received from the federal government to ensure that our efforts do n’t fall on the shoulders of El Paso taxpayers.” ” I look forward to hearing more about the President’s program on Tuesday”.
But, Salinas defended the Tuesday occasion as nothing more than a last-ditch effort to keep faces before the No. 1 vote. 1 matter to U. S. citizens: immigration.
” It’s good this is going into place, but is it politically driven five months before the election? I think so”, Salinas said.
Given that the White House and the Department of Homeland Security have consistently stated that only Congress can solve “broken” immigration rules, not the executive branch, the Democratic governor, who is an attorney, questioned the legal justification for Biden’s senior action.
” If it was that quick and easy to issue an executive order, why not do it in December when we were getting swamped with 3 [, 000]- 4, 000 persons a moment? It’s difficult for me to miss that”, Salinas said. ” As much as I want to support]Biden ] — and by no means am I a Republican — but he’s been saying that Congress does it, and now you’re doing something about it without Congress. Why could n’t he do it before? One- hundred percentage, it’s diplomatically driven”.
The White House is expected to announce an , professional order , Tuesday that essentially breaks down the U. S. Mexico borders to illegal immigration. Under the Biden administration,  , almost 10 million  , non- U. S. members have been encountered attempting to enter the United States.
Although the order’s details have n’t been made public yet, it is expected to resemble a Senate proposal that House Republicans have opposed earlier this year.
Adult refugees who cross the border and get prison may be affected by the purchase. The adjustments are anticipated to be in range with restrictions that were put forth earlier this year in a Senate bill that ultimately failed to gain Democratic support.

Although restrictions on refugees who cross between ports remain undetermined, it may limit the number of refugees who seek hospital at the ports of entry.
A request for comment was never received by the White House.
