Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy claimed that during their high-pressure negotiations, President Joe Biden consistently displayed signs of dementia.
According to a statement from the Wall Street Journal, which recalled dozens of conversations with politicians and political insiders, Biden has allegedly frequently slacked mental capacity behind closed doors. The Republican Correspondent McCarthy, who provided the article’s main supply, elaborated on earlier assertions that Biden had considerably declined since taking office.
” I used to join with him when he was vice president. I’d come to his house”, McCarthy told the shop. ” He’s not the same man”.
McCarthy claimed that Biden’s performance was inconsistent, with him appearing sharpened at times and slipping off at another.
” He had ramble”, he said about the springtime 2023 conferences to discuss raising the debt sky. ” He generally had accounts. He could n’t negotiate another way” . ,
According to McCarthy, Biden went through both highs and lows in May 2023. He claimed Biden was careless and slow the day after appearing spontaneous and call in a call from Japan.
McCarthy said,” He was going back to all the old things that had been done for a long time.” ” He was shocked when I’d state: ‘ No, Mr. President. Decades ago, we discussed that appointment. We are done with that. ‘”  ,
The White House seriously disputed all the charges in the Wall Street Journal tale, especially casting over McCarthy’s claims.
White House top assistant press secretary Andrew Bates made an apparent contradiction in McCarthy’s account of events in a speech to the Washington Examiner.
” Absolutely, the singular on- record writer in the whole tale is Kevin McCarthy, whose interview contradicts his earlier  , public , and , private , statements about finding the president strong in their personal meetings”, he said. ” What’s more, Democratic members of Congress who refuted Republican ‘ rests on the report were , left out , of the content”.
Bates claimed that McCarthy was a “proven liar” when he claimed that former president Donald Trump was at least partially responsible for the Jan. 6 riots despite an audio recording of him saying otherwise and that the only people who would” smear” Biden in the story were “political opponents afraid to use their names.”
” President Biden inherited an market in collapse, fraying alliances, and a rising violent crime rate, and he turned each around with his experience and judgment, delivering the strongest financial growth in the world, making NATO bigger than ever, and forcing violent offense to a nearby 50- year low”, he concluded.
Supporters of Biden, such as MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, also pointed out that McCarthy’s feedback instantly contradicted both his people notes and secret opinions reported during the negotiations.
New York Times reporter Katie Rogers relayed her reporting from last year:” Privately, Mr. McCarthy has told allies that he has found Mr. Biden to be mentally sharp in meetings”.
McCarthy was n’t the only on- record critic, however, with Sen. James Risch ( R- ID ) sharing a critical impression of his meetings with Biden.
” What you see on TV is what you get”, he told the Wall Street Journal. They need to get him out of behind closed doors because I did n’t see it, these people who keep talking about how powerful he is behind closed doors are.
Other lawmakers, who spoke anonymously, were similarly critical. Some claimed that Biden slowed down so much that a Jan. 17 Cabinet meeting took about 10 minutes before it started. Even so, they asserted that Biden spoke so softly that it was difficult to hear him. People with knowledge of the matter claimed that the president spoke with such little enunciation at the May 2023 meeting that some had trouble understanding what he was saying.

Biden’s mental clarity has been one of the main targets for his administration’s critics, with polls revealing that a sizable portion of people are concerned about his age. Republican nominee Trump is 77, while Binding is 81.
Trump has given less than half of his press conferences at this time, and White House visitor logs have revealed a shrinking number of people visiting the president.
