Frank Stronach, an Austrian-Canadian businessman in auto parts, was detained Friday on sexual assault charges spanning decades, according to authorities.
Stronach, 91, was charged with five crimes including rape, obscene assault on a women, sexual assault, and forced captivity, Peel Regional Police said. He was released with problems and will look at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, Ontario, at a later date, the policeman statement said.
Tyler Bell, a police officer in Peel Regional, stated that there are more than one defendant, but he would not specify how many.
” Evidently, this is a higher- account case. Our particular victims device is expected to safeguard the victims, but they are being vague, according to Bell. ” There are more than one victim,” but we have n’t yet confirmed that number.
Stronach’s attorney did n’t respond to a request for comment right away.
Authorities allege that sexual attack took place between the 1980s and as recently as 2023. Bell stated that if someone has knowledge or has been a victim, they should come forth.
Stronach, who was born in Austria, became one of Canada’s wealthiest individuals by creating Magna in his garage in 1957 and building it into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of car components.
Additionally, he founded The Stronach Group, a business specializing in horse race. He was recently elected to the Order of Canada, one of the region’s highest honors, after making a brief excursion into Hungarian politics ten years ago.
Since relinquishing control of the business in 2010, according to a Magna spokeswoman, Stronach has not had any connections to the business.
In an email on Friday night, Dave Niemiec stated,” We have just been informed of the charges brought against Frank Stronach. ” Magna has no understanding of the exploration or the complaints that have been made beyond what has been reported in the media,” Magna said.
Niemiec stated that the business would not make any additional comments on the ongoing legal issue.
In 2018, Frank sued his child, two children, and former business associate Alon Ossip for over$ 500 million in Ontario Superior Court alleging they mismanaged the mother’s property and conspired to take control of them.
Belinda Stronach, a former French Member of Parliament, countersued her father, saying in a statement of protection that he lost vast sums of money on pet projects.
The situation was afterwards settled.
