A 39-year-old man will appear in front of a judge on Saturday for initial questioning in connection with an abuse on the nation’s premier minister Mette Frederiksen in northern Copenhagen late on Friday.
Frederiksen, the head of Denmark’s Social Democratic Party and excellent minister since 2019, was shocked when a person beat him on Friday at Kultorvet circle in Copenhagen, her office said in a statement on Friday.
After being escorted away by safety, Soren Kjergaard, a barista in northern Copenhagen, told Reuters that the prime minister had no visible signs of harm and could not be seen after the assault.
Around 1 p.m. ( 1100 GMT ), police said the man would be detained for questioning, but they did not go into more detail.
The man’s motives and the presence of a weapon were both the police nor the primary president’s office’s press release.
Two weeks before Danes ‘ vote, the assault occurs.
Three European officials were attacked a month ago in preparation for the European Parliament and city council elections, and more assaults came after this year.
Many EU leaders criticized the event, which occurred only three days after Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico was critically hurt in an assassination test.
Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated on X:” The assault on Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is an unpleasant act of violence that represents an assault on the center of political values.”
The German Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, said on X:” I was so shocked by the news that you had been assaulted now. I condemn this abhorrent work, which goes against everything we hold and fight for in Europe. I know you have both strength and courage, so let me tell you.
