Lahore: Pakistan has begun putting in place a global firewall to encrypt social media platforms and stop the spread of objectionable content. According to state sources, the network may apply to all well-known social media platforms like X, Facebook, and YouTube.
The network, a senior national said, seeks to identify sources of advertising materials, examine data from various online protocol addresses and reduce the video’s presence. One of the state’s main functions is keywords sorting, which identifies and hides unpleasant content.
Additionally, procedures are being developed to handle Virtual Private Networks (VPNs ), which many have employed to escape restrictions placed on X, formerly Twitter. The business sector criticized the start-up limitations on VPNs, which caused the government to temporarily suspend its execution.
The X embargo has brought its use in Pakistan to nearly half, from 4.5 million to 2.4 million people. It appears that X’s management is steadily adhering to government regulations to stop accounts that spread fake news, facilitate conversations on delicate topics, or circulate controversial ideas.
The home government had sent the Islamabad great court a thorough document outlining the justification for X’s ban in April. The report highlighted X’s non-registration and disregard for Muslim legal requirements.
The document claimed that the report’s blocking was due to X’s inability to follow Pakistani laws. It claimed that the behavior did not violate fundamental right.
