A Florida judge on Monday found the fruit business Chiquita Brands International responsible for funding the armed party Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia ( AUC) in Colombia.
The judge in the Southern District of Florida’s legal case determined that” Chiquita knowingly provided significant assistance to the AUC to a level sufficient to create a near risk of harm to people.”
Chiquita has been ordered to pay eight AUC subjects, each of whom were far-right paramilitaries, a complete of$ 38 million. The team disbanded in 2006, according to Stanford University’s Mapping Extremists Project.
