
More than 10 million internally displaced people live in Sudan and are being driven out of their houses by the U.N. movement agency, the company reported to The Associated Press on Monday.
More than 2 million additional people have been driven worldwide, largely to neighboring , Chad,  , South Sudan , and , Egypt,  , International Organization for Migration , official Mohammedali Abunajela said. 2.8 million people who had fled their homes before the present war started, according to the IOM.
” Picture a city the size of , London , being displaced. That’s what it’s like, but it’s happening with the continual danger of fire, with hunger, disease and terrible racial and sex- based violence”, IOM Director- General , Amy Pope , said in a statement.
Sudan’s most recent conflict started in April of last year when rising tensions between the military’s top military officers and the military Rapid Support Forces erupted into empty fighting in the capital, Khartoum, and other parts of the nation.
The war has wrecked , Sudan, killing more than 14, 000 people and wounding hundreds of people, while pushing its inhabitants to the brink of famine.
Last month, the U. N. food agency warned the warring parties that there is a serious risk of widespread starvation and death in the vast western region of , Darfur , and elsewhere in , Sudan , if they do n’t allow in humanitarian aid.
Pope demanded a coordinated response from the global community, noting that less than one-fifth of the resources have been allocated.
Together, the number of refugees and internally displaced means that more than a quarter of , Sudan ‘s , population of 47 million has fled.
