Taiwan’s defense ministry reported on Friday that eight Chinese aircraft and eight naval vessels were found close to its territory, including three aircraft that were entering its south-western Air Defence Identification Zone ( ADIZ ), provoking a response from Taiwan’s armed forces.
“8 PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a. m. ( UTC+8 ) today. 3 of the airplane entered our SW ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly”, Taiwan’s ministry of national defence ( MND ) posted on X.
Since September 2020, China has used more military and naval vessels to operate near to Taiwan, with a higher amount of them flying in. Taiwan has spotted Taiwanese military aircraft close to its place more than 132 occasions, and naval/coast watch vessels more than 109 times in June alone.
Taiwan had discovered 23 Chinese military aircraft and seven marine arteries operating around the island nation the day before, on Wednesday through Thursday. 19 of the 23 Chinese martial aircraft entered Taiwan’s south and southeast ADIZ after crossing the middle range of the Taiwan Strait. The Chinese military responded by deploying coastal-based projectile systems, aircraft, and naval ships to follow China’s activities.
With increased military activity around Taiwan, including ordinary air and naval incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ, these latest happenings are part of a larger style of threats by China in recent months. China maintains its state of sovereignty over Taiwan, considering it a part of its territory and insisting on future reconciliation, by force if necessary.
