BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The U. S. Consulate General in Matamoros issued a notice Friday warning citizens of the dangers of organized kidnappings.
According to the notice, the embassy is aware of organized ransom-for-exit incidents on intercity buses leaving Reynosa and Tamaulipas.
” These kidnappings , seem to exclusively target , individuals with connections to the United States, including U. S.  , citizens and residents”, the consul stated.  ,” The kidnappers , generally demand , bounties of thousands of dollars for each victim”.
The Department of State’s Travel Advisory for Tamaulipas read” Level 4 – Do No Go According to Crime and Kidnapping,” according to the notice.
Travelers are advised to avoid taking the bus in or through Tamaulipas, be aware of your surroundings, and inform friends and family of your health.
