Families in the Balochistan region of Pakistan, who have been a victim of forced disappearances, made the decision to abandon typical Eid celebrations in a heart-wrenching display of their continual sorrow and discontent. Rather, they intended to stage a demonstration to protest state organizations that are accused of abusing the Baloch individuals.
Mama Qadir Baloch, a vital part of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), declared the opposition in a movie speech, asserting,” For the past 15 years, the crimes committed by the Army and intelligence agencies of Pakistan have led the Baloch to ban Eid activities. While Muslims across the world celebrate this occasion, the Baloch mourn”.
Following a similar demonstration in front of the DC office just days prior, families of the missing persons held a sit-in protest at Shaheed Fida Chowk on Eid day. After the district administration gave the families assurances, the earlier protest came to an end.
The decision to protest on Eid highlights the significant impact of forced disappearances on the Baloch community, who have been relentlessly searching for answers and justice regarding the fate of their loved ones, who are alleged to have been taken by state forces.
