There is “repeated evidence” of non- citizens voting, Rep. Chip Roy ( R- TX ) said during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, discussing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility ( SAVE ) Act.
” Let me just say this about the condition of the election issue total,” Roy said, adding that “we’ve got repeated evidence of those who are these fraudulently— or, or they’re around officially — but non-citizens voting.”
” We’ve got studies demonstrating that. We have proof that it may have tipped Al Franken’s victory in Minnesota over his vote. Objective studies have showed…Virginia tossing out 1, 500 registered voters only last month. I have a cleaning record to go through. We’ve got local jurisdictions — Oakland, San Francisco, our nation’s capital in Washington, DC, and New York City— who are registering voters specifically for their state and local elections, but we know that they do n’t work hard to make sure they’re not voting in federal elections”, he said, noting that “federal law prohibits ]and ] limits the ability of states to be able to check and ensure citizenship, so much so that the state of Arizona has to run two systems — one for their state local elections and one for their federal elections”.
” They’re absolutely bifurcated because they want to maintain membership for their state and local votes, but they’re not allowed to for national elections. So, we need to correct the problem”, he said.
Breitbart News adds:
Additionally, according to Roy, the authorities have limited the government’s ability to “determine and collect the information necessary for determining and checking citizenship” because of the Motor Voter Act, or the National Voter Registration Act, which was passed in the 1990s.
Basically, Roy said the U. S. has set up a system that requires federal authorities to squeeze out the forms, encouraging people to register to vote. The senator claimed there is nothing in place to really assess citizenship, despite the fact that they ask people to identify if they are citizens and that federal law requires one to be a resident to cast ballot in national elections.
The SAVE Act would address these issues and tackle what Roy termed the “glitch,” making it mandatory for anyone applying to register to vote to show their citizenship in all 50 states.
” By doing that, although, it is correcting the problem. Additionally, it goes through and lists some of the problems that have been challenging. There are says, for instance, like North Dakota, which does not include voter registration at all, okay? They do n’t require registration, just because they ca n’t just show up to vote. Instead, they have their own guidelines for what you must bring in. And that’s evidently a less crowded position than, say, California or Texas or New York or Florida. But, therefore, we adapt and try to adapt to support with those kinds of situations. But, nevertheless, the purpose of the expenses is accurately as you just described, very simple”, Roy said. There is a lot of support for this nonpartisan issue.
