TEXAS ( KXAN )— San Antonio will soon be home to a new passport agency, the U. S. Department of State announced Tuesday.

The fresh Central Texas service comes as part of a multiple- agency expansion via the department, with another planned agencies set to appear online in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kansas City, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Department of State’s card network will expand to 35 companies and facilities along with more than 7,400 people passport acceptance facilities in the country as a result of the six new passport agencies that are under development, according to the release.

Below in Texas, there are presently two id facilities working:

    • Houston Passport Agency: Mickey Leland Federal Building, 1919 Smith St., 4th ground.
    • Dallas Passport Agency, 1100 Commerce St.

Department of State officers set a record for issuing more than 24 million card books and tickets during fiscal time 2022-23. In the United States, Department of State officials reported that only 5 % of Americans held passports in 1990, compared to 48 % of those who still carry one today.

KXAN reached out to the Department of State for more details regarding the planned entry of the San Antonio card agency. We’ll upgrade this tale when we receive that info.
