PARIS: France’s far right National Rally ( RN ) party and its allies are seen leading the first round of the country’s parliamentary elections with 35.5 % of the vote, according to a poll published Sunday.
The left-wing New Popular Front ( NPF ) alliance received 29.5 % of the vote in the Ipsos survey, which Le Parisien newspaper and Radio France conducted on June 19 and 20.
President Emmanuel Macron’s moderate ally was seen in third place, winning 19.5 % of seats.
The voter turnout ranges between 60 and 64 %, which is significantly higher than the 47 % that were present at the most recent general election in June 2022.
It’s unlikely that the RN will receive an overall majority given its lead in the polls ahead of the vote, which will take place on June 30 and July 7. Following his party’s crushing defeat in earlier this month’s EU votes, Macron called the election.
The National Rally is rated as the most reliable in a separate Polls study released by the Financial Times as the most reliable in terms of managing the business and public finances.
According to the survey, 25 % of respondents trust Marine Le Pen’s RN the most to take the right decisions on economic issues, versus 22 % for the New Popular Front and 20 % for Macron’s alliance.
