There is a better way to write a test to withered institutions of reportedly higher learning for those who want to advance humanity’s happiness. The idealized American development activity is the contract school activity.
Parents who want a different option for their and their neighbors ‘ children, something that more closely fits the students ‘ quest for knowledge, give a charter school their impetus. Just as children’s learning methods differ, contract colleges come in an almost infinite range and taste. They represent a resurgence of learning, the Ameri- does- do approach, and grassroots volunteerism.
At a new occasion at Merit Academy, a traditional charter school in Woodland Park, Colorado, students listened intently as a 106- year- aged veteran of the Battle of Britain, past Capt. Monica Kinnaman, discussed what it was like to protect society against dictatorship. These classes, which incorporate amazing lessons from revered elders, are a vaccine against the fevers that are now roiling college campuses.
According to Alexander Pope, “education constitutes the popular mind.” Just as the tree is bent, the leaf inclined”. Americans may believe, as information’s necessity has permeated the national brain since our establishment. The Northwest , Ordinance, often referred to as our fourth foundation report, expressed this fact clearly when passed on July 13, 1787. It asserted that “religion, conscience, and understanding, being necessary , to good authorities and the joy of civilization, schools and the means of education may always be encouraged”.
Now, that commitment to furthering education in America remains solid. Last year, institutions of higher learning raked in nearly$ 60 billion in donations.
Obviously, those donors have nice hearts. But, how has their compassion been put to use? Are the consumers demonstrating that they are the hubs of information and conscience, never mind church, envisioned by the government’s founders, or have they drifted from their correct path? Since the terrible pogrom in Israel in October, events have shown how many of these institutions, once revered and favored as the center of education, are deserving of the incredible funding they annually receive.  ,
Pope’s observation aligns nicely with St. Ignatius of Loyola’s alleged comment:” Give me a child till he is seven years old, and I will show you the man”. Children were the subjects of both the poet and the priest’s attention. Both realized that the adult product’s early education component is both crucial and influential. Resources are most effective for enabling those young minds to think critically and morally in the name of good government and the welfare of all.
Unfortunately, the process of forming young minds is not cheap. It costs about$ 1 million to launch a charter school, plus the annual funding per pupil.  , Outside of government and big business,$ 1 million is still a daunting sum. Even after opening day, these costs challenge schools ‘ resources, as they must remain competitive with fully funded student programs, teacher compensation, and well- maintained facilities.
This is where some beer math is useful.
That$ 60 billion currently going to higher education represents the , start- up costs , for 60, 000 charter schools. 30 million students would be enshrined in schools that met their families ‘ desired educational approach and philosophy if each of those schools were to educate 500 students in a year’s redirected donations. With only 50 million school- aged children in the nation, two years of effort could revolutionize and “forever encourage” education.
Perhaps it is unattainable to anticipate a sudden change in the amount of financial aid for K-12 education. But it is a thought- provoking experiment. According to Albert Einstein, the definition of insanity was repeated action and different outcomes. The solution may be downstream of the issue if it is troubling to see collegiate antisemitic demonstrators yell slogans that are n’t grounded in history or logic.
Those protesters are probably unsalvageable, but their younger counterparts are  , eager and ready for what , the Colorado Charter School , Act describes as innovative, rigorous, and diverse methods of learning. Support your neighborhood charter school to get a better return on your education donation dollar.
