    Chihuahua strengthens ties with US federal agencies

    State authorities, ATF speak about tracking criminals, courthouse, Economic Development office discuss STEM for potential business workers

    El Paso, Texas ( Frontier Report )- State officials from Chihuahua state are attempting to improve ties with American education and public safety organizations.

    On Tuesday, authorities with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive visited the Chihuahua State Police command centre in Juarez. The Americans were given a journey of a Juarez center where officers use face recognition technology to track stolen cars and offenders.

    The journey “had the objective of exchanging ideas and proposals to increase businesses” in frontier law police, the state police said in a statement.

    At the highest rates, Mexican authorities have voiced concerns about the flow of weapons from the United States. Leaders from that country have stated on several occasions that the majority of murders committed in Mexico with a rifle involve weapons that were actually sold in the U.S.

    US sends 220 troops into Mexico

    But, according to Department of Justice statistics, more than 10,000 defendants were charged with offenses involving weapons and explosives in federal courts in the United States in the fiscal year 2023. Border officials and officers reported 379 specific weapons and ammunition convulsions of people trying to leave the United States at Southwest ports of entry in FY 2023, as well as another 241 spasms since October 1, 2023.

    Separately, representatives of the U.S. Consulate in Juarez and the Chihuahua Economic Development Department met to discuss transnational higher education initiatives.

    Guests and visitors talked about opportunities for learners of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, in Juarez, award opportunities at Texas universities and possible transnational programs in artificial intelligence.

    These efforts are centered on working with the business sector and intellectual development. The goal is to ensure that ( Chihuahua ) remains an international resource” for companies given the abilities of its young professionals, the Economic Development Department said in a statement on Tuesday.

    More than 300 U.S.-run maquiladoras are located in Juarez, and they are extremely employing highly specialized expert employees.
