Fussell went back to the beach after waiting for about 15 minutes and making three unsuccessful attempts to contact Dispoto, just to discover him incapacitated.
Dispoto was soon placed in a local hospital where he was afterward declared dead by emergency responders who immediately began CPR on him. Andrew Casole, a spokesman for the officers, established that Dispoto’s dying was an unintended side effect of a lightning strike.

As requested by Seaside Park Borough Administrator Karen Kroon, the program, which you find both sky and cloud-to-ground lightning attacks within a user-defined circle of up to 20 yards, was scheduled for installation on Wednesday.
She emphasized that the assembly was a proactive step to protect the public from possible dangers and not a direct response to the most recent tragedy.
Since 2006, New Jersey has recorded 16 thunder- related incidents, with five occurring on shores, including the death of a lifeguard in South Seaside Park in 2021.
Fussell told WABC that Dispoto was always ready to assist people and make their lives easier, and she wants people to remember him for it. ” But, his last act of courage was his best, and that’s my Patrick Dispoto”, she said, highlighting his noble nature and the influence he had on those around him.
