McLen, Texas ( Border Report )- Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump had their first national debate on Thursday evening in Atlanta, but it was largely one of the most pressing problems facing citizens.
The 90- second argument — hosted by CNN and controlled by cables Jake Tapper and Dana Bash — touched on the market, taxes, women’s sexual rights, the conflict in Ukraine and the opioid issue. Biden’s efficiency, which experts described as weak and aimless, and questions about his time and ability to serve four more years, were the topics of discussion following the conversation.
The debate on Thursday, the earliest it has ever taken place during a national campaign period, featured no fresh immigration policies or proposals. No one from Tapper or Bash asked them to elaborate or provide an explanation of how they would handle safety or hospital issues along the Southwest border.
Trump brought up immigration 14 minutes into the conversation when he first posed a problem regarding Roe v. Wade‘s reversing.
” The same persons he allows cross our border have murdered numerous young people by the same people he allows.” We have a frontier that’s the most dangerous area anywhere in the world”, Trump said. He “opened it up,” he said, noting that these murders are raping and killing people in our nation. As far as the pregnancy is concerned, it’s then again with the state”.
The first question involving multiculturalism and the frontier was posed by Turner three days later.
” On your watch, a record number of migrants have crossed the southern border improperly, overwhelming border state, overburdening cities like New York and Chicago, and in some cases posing real health risks. Given that, why if voters believe you to resolve this turmoil”? Tapper asked Biden.
Biden responded by touting the bipartisan Senate border protection act, which politicians, including those involved in the discussions, struck down half in Congress.
Biden said,” We worked very hard to get a bipartisan agreement that would not only modify all that,” stressing that the estimate “would have significantly increased the number of hospital officers.”
The measure may have added 4, 300 prison officials and 1, 500 fresh U. S. Customs and Border Protection employees.
” Border Patrol endorsed me, endorsed my place”, Biden said immediately.
Biden’s opinion quickly drew a comment on X from the National Border Patrol Council, the coalition representing 20, 000 agents countrywide:” To be clear, we never have and never will accept Biden”.
Yet, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a major negotiator and independent, revealed earlier this year that the NBPC had endorsed the bipartisan Senate costs.
Biden immediately criticized Trump for his approach to home divorces, saying,” When he was leader, he was separating children from their parents and putting them in enclosures. That’s certainly the right way to go”.
Since he issued an executive order on June 4 that prevented anyone who enters illegally between legal ports of entry from seeking asylum, Biden reported that illegal crossings have decreased by 40 %.
During an operational visit to Tucson, Arizona on Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Department of Homeland Security officials had announced the 40 % decrease in crossings.
Biden did not go into specifics about the new policy, but he continued,” We are now in a situation where 40 % more people are crossing the border. And I mean to keep the momentum going to get the complete ban, the, the, the complete action in relation to what we’re going to complete with more Border Patrol and more prison officials.
Trump retorted:” I really do n’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I do n’t think he knows what he said either”.
” He decided to open up our borders, open up our nation to people that are from prison. People that are from intellectual organisations and insane asylums and extremists”, Trump said. ” We had the safest borders in past. The worst borders in past is now in place. There’s not been anything like it”.
Tapper questioned Trump about his assurance that if he were to win the most significant imprisonment plan in history, including those who had jobs, whos ‘ spouses were citizens, and whos had resided here for centuries. And how are you going to accomplish it?”
Trump did not answer the query.
” We are living right today in a rabbit’s eggs. They are killing our people in New York, in California, in every state in the union because we do n’t have borders right now because every state is now a border”, Trump answered. And because of his absurd, absurd, and illogical plans, people are entering and killing our citizens at a rate we have never seen. We call it immigrant violence. I call it Trump immigrant murder”.
The nonprofit Amnesty International tweeted:” One thing we’re learning at yesterday’s political conversation: We need to make sure immigrant justice, gender fairness, economic justice, cultural justice, and climate justice are on the ballot this November”.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said this of the debate:”” President Trump proved once again why he is the leader America needs, while President Biden was slow to respond, incoherent, and unable to defend his disastrous record on the border. Under President Biden, our nation has experienced , an unprecedented crisis at our southern border , with record- high , numbers of illegal immigrants, weapons, and , deadly drugs like fentanyl entering our country.”
After the debate, Joshua Rubin, founder of the grassroots organization Witness at the Border, told Border Report:” Those of us who fight for the human rights of people who migrate had to, as happens too often, wince and grit our teeth and hope that the rising tide of hostility shown in this debate, in Trump’s vile rhetoric and Biden’s sometimes limp response, turns. In the meantime, we are forced to watch as Trump fabricates lies about the poor who immigrate to bully his rival. It is painful.”
