NEW DELHI: The Taliban government has stated that they are working with them to solve problems relating to children’s rights in Afghanistan. The United Nations is holding relationship speaks in Qatar as the organization prepares to hold the engagement talks, which have drawn a lot of criticism for the absence of Afghan girls from the major meetings.
The Taliban group, led by federal official Zabihullah Mujahid, may enter the next round of speaks starting on Sunday. Civil society members, including children’s rights groups, may participate in independent meetings with foreign ambassadors and UN officials on Tuesday.
Mujahid emphasized that the Taliban authorities should be the only Afghan representative at the discussions because it represents all of Afghanistan. He stated,” If Afghans participate through many channels, it means we are also scattered, our society is still not unified”.
The UN- led conversations, which began in May 2023, aim to enhance global cooperation in engaging with the Taliban government. Nevertheless, the Taliban government has not been formally recognised by any status, and the global community has grappled with its strategy to Afghanistan’s new leaders, with children’s rights being a major point of contention.
Mujahid reiterated the Taliban’s need for good relationships with all nations, but he also noted that no significant conversations may take place in Doha. Otherwise, the meeting serves as an opportunity to exchange opinions, especially with European countries. The Taliban government says the government’s efforts to combat cocaine and address financial troubles are crucial to the development of the impoverished nation.
