
In light of the growing conflicts in the South China Sea and the risk of a military conflict between China and the Philippines, Japan does host a gathering of the Quad foreign officials later this month.
The meeting will be held in the latter quarter of this month, for which the foreign ministers will be expected to make a strong statement regarding the rules-based global order and free and open Indo-Pacific.
They will also examine participation in the Triple initiatives for the Indo-Pacific, including those aimed at addressing climate change, clean electricity supply chains, and facilities, which were discussed at the Hiroshima summit last year.
India is set to host the summit this time, but it is anticipated that only after the US votes will the mountain taking place. Following the Republic Day celebrations, India had suggested hosting the conference in January of this year, but the invitation to the conference was turned down by US President Joe Biden.
The officials ‘ commitment to changing the status quo through pressure or persuasion is expected to be reiterated amid the China-Philippines conflict. An aircraft ship was reported to have been deployed close to the Philippines on Monday.
Quad had expressed serious issue at the most recent foreign ministers ‘ meeting, held on the eve of the UNGA in 2023, about the harmful use of coast guard and maritime militia warships, and attempts to thwart other nations ‘ efforts to obstruct offshore abuse activities.
Deals are anticipated about the Ukraine and Myanmar issues, which have both sprang up on Quad’s plan despite India’s initial reluctance to prioritize them. India and other countries shared deep regret over the conflict and its “terrible and horrible humanitarian consequences” in a joint statement. Quad has also referred to the Ukraine conflict in the environment of the conflict.
The use of nuclear weapons is intolerable, and it was made clear that the rules-based global order must regard all state ‘ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
