KATHMANDU: A large- level conference between Nepal’s two largest parties- Nepali Congress and CPN- Oop- has led to new speculation that days of PM P K Dahal ‘ Prachanda’- led govt are numbered.
The meeting took place on Saturday at the residence of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Communist leader and former prime minister K P Sharma Oli, a member of the ruling coalition. Some political observers speculated that the two officials may have discussed forming a new partnership government to replace Prachanda. Oli, eying premiership when suddenly, was angry with the current budget allocations for fiscal year 2024- 25, which he has formally criticised.
However, sources close to Prachanda refute “rumors about change in the energy balance,” claiming that Prachanda, CPN-Maoist Centre president, and Oli, CPN-UML president, are determined to keep the current coalition together for the duration. According to the PM’s hit director, Praganda and Oli met twice on Sunday and Monday at the PM’s office to discuss the most recent political situation and ways to strengthen the coalition government. He continued, the two agreed to join the governing coalition along with Nagarik Unmukti Party, which had voted in favor of the government during the trust voting.
In his one- and-a-half-year name, Prachanda has faced a vote of confidence in parliament twice. The second-largest CPN-UML and Nepali Congress will have political balance only, according to Gunaraj Luitel, deputy director of Nagarik Daily. When the third-largest group Maoist Centre is in charge of the government and the largest group NC is in the criticism, he said, “it seems strange.” The Nepali Congress has 89 votes in the 275- part House of Representatives whereas CPN- UML and CPN- Communist Centre have 78 and 32 tickets both. Nepal has seen 13 govts in the last 16 times.
