July 4 Is the Anniversary of More Than American Independence

We are all aware of the wonderful mystery that took place on July 4 in Philadelphia 248 years before. Some of us are old enough to recall yet another July 4 revelation, one that occurred in 1976 rather than 1776. We should be aware of this in the world of hostages today because it was n’t in Pennsylvania but rather Uganda.

On June 27, 1976, an Air France flight with 246 people and a 12th team left Tel Aviv. It stopped in Athens to pick up 58 more people… and four terrorists: 2 Palestinians from the PFLP and two from the European Revolutionary tissue. They hijacked the airplane to get some fuel in Benghazi, Libya, before making their way to Entebbe Airport in Uganda, where they arrived on June 28. Four additional terrorists accompanied them to Entebbe, where they were even supported by the troops of Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada, who made regular visits to the victims. The jihadists ‘ requirements were for both income and the release of 53 Arab terrorists, 40 of whom were in Jewish prison. If their needs were not satisfied, they promised to commence killing victims on July 1. On June 30, 48 non- Jewish people who were mostly old and tired were released. This made it even more obvious that this was an Israeli-related kidnapping plot by the Palestinians.

&nbsp, On July 1, Israel said they would communicate, and the Palestinians postponed executing civilians until noon on July 4, and released the remaining 100 no- Jewish victims. The courageous Air France team, among whom, refused to leave, made up the 106 victims that were still present at Entebbe.

From the moment the aircraft was hijacked, Israel attempted to negotiate for the release of the victims, using Egyptian Anwar Sadat, and even reaching out to Yasser Arafat for assistance. &nbsp, But it was to no cost. The internal conflict in Israel was over whether to comply with the extremists ‘ requirements or not. Shimon Peres argued that if Israel capitulated and simply held victims, it would likely lead to another wave of Palestinians kidnapping Israelis as a war strategy. &nbsp,

A military recovery vision was planned in response to failing conversations and realizing that a law of succumbing to jihadists could be devastating for Israel in the future.

&nbsp, One of the problems for Israel was aviation fuel. The Israelis would need to replenish the C130 Hercules plane anywhere between Israel and Uganda, and the government of Kenyatta granted permission to do so in Nairobi. &nbsp, A full power of 100 workers would be involved in the operation. &nbsp, A vital component to achievement were the 29 people of the abuse system, led by Lt. Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu, the nephew of the current prime minister, would need to go up to the old switch and get the victims free. Major Shaul Mofaz may lead the team that may clear the military airport and eliminate the MIG fighters it, while the Golani battalion may secure the whole airport and the Hercules aircraft.

Great coordination and every piece would need to drop simply into place for the hostages to become properly rescued, according to &nbsp.

Jewish troops landed on July 3 at 11: 00pm. They entered the airport on a parade that was made to resemble Idi Amin’s. When the Israelis entered the airport where the victims were being held, they spoke English and Hebrew and yelled for everyone to remain down. Three hostages either did n’t understand or did n’t listen, raised their heads, and were killed by crossfire. The jihadists were killed, and the captives were flown to an Israeli aircraft, but Ugandan soldiers attacked them while they were on their way, some of whom were inside the control tower. Five soldiers were wounded in the shootout, and Colonel Netanyahu was killed. &nbsp, But the captives got to the aircraft, and after Netanyahu’s body was carried on to it, the aircraft took off to Nairobi. &nbsp,

The whole procedure lasted 53 hours. &nbsp, All seven terrorists present at the airports, and between 45 and 45 Ghanaian men, were killed. &nbsp, Of the 106 victims, three were killed, one was left in Uganda ( a lady who had been taken from the aircraft to a clinic on June 29 ), and ten were wounded.

&nbsp, On July 9, the United Nations convened to denounce Israel for the assault. However, there was no formal resolution passed due to the strength of Britain and the United States. &nbsp, Europe and America were unified in condemning the jihadists, and rapturously praised Israel for her powerful steps, swift and decisive answer, and for not surrendering to terrorists.

However, as we have seen since Oct 7, that American support for decisive action that was already in place in 1976 has been replaced with pity for the jihadists. Over the past 48 times, Flattery for Israel as a defender of liberty has evolved into a clear anti-Israel hatred of Jews around the world. &nbsp, Commitment has been replaced by acquiescence.

&nbsp, America’s Founding Fathers proudly acted on their trust and commitment to liberty 248 years earlier with the Declaration of Independence. In Entebbe, Israelis acted with the same commitment to defend independence 48 years ago today. We all need to follow their confidence and commitment to living in the same way by living and acting as glad Americans every day.

 This account needs to be remembered now, both because of the celebration of July 4 and because of what has happened since October 7. We need to consider the training of 1776, 1976, and now. May we all find a way to a secure place of peace in these difficult times by remembering story.
