
Michael Lemon woke up in his house early on the vacation of July 4 to the sounds of what he believed to be fireworks. Otherwise, he found his mother, brother and relatives bloodied and bullet holes in the front windows.
” Ran out my place, seen my little brother bleeding. I only seen violence. Once I saw blood, I did n’t know what to do”, he said. ” Took an innocent woman’s life, took two innocent women’s lives … Chicago ai n’t got no remorse”.
When gunmen jumped out of cars in the 7100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue and sprayed the apartment with guns, three babies in the Grand Crossing house were critically injured, and two people were killed, according to Chicago officers.
According to CPD, officers responded to calls and a technology call for shots fired in at around 6:15 a.m. and discovered five patients with gunshot wounds.
A 42- season- aged woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 22- yr- aged woman died at University of Chicago Hospital, police said.
Three kids, aged 5, 7, and 8, were all in crucial state at Comer Children’s Hospital, according to authorities.
The 42- year- ancient was Lemon’s mother, Nakeeshia Solid, a “loving, pleasure person” who raised a great, happy family, he said. She gave her daughter Kesha Boo and gave it the title. Capri Edwards, the other woman who was killed, was identified by the home as the other person.
” All she wanted to do was sit for her children, have fun with her children, y’all simply took that aside from her youngsters”, Lemon said of Solid.
” Y’all do n’t get no cool points for coming to shoot up a crib at six o’clock in the morning where nobody in the house gang affiliated, none of that”, Lemon said. His younger brother “wanted to be a sports actor … now he’s got to grow up without his mama”.
In the drizzling rain on Thursday, problems intervention workers spoke with relatives and those who were outside, offering victims ‘ support and attempting to ease any tensions.
At a day press conference, assistant captain Don Jerome claimed that “multiple content exited those automobiles and fired” at the house after two cars pulled up in the area. They discovered shells from a gun and rifle.
While warning information about the incident was tentative, Jerome said, “it appears that this started from some type of individual debate”.
No prosecutions have been made, according to police on Thursday night, and the criminals reportedly fled in an unfamiliar path. CPD is seeking ideas and Area One police are investigating. The department said they are reviewing license plates and digital information, but they have not yet released more information about the vehicles.
” My heart bleeds for this area, which is a fairly quiet community never really used to this sort of assault”, Ald. Desmon Yancy, 5th, said at the presentation with officers and Deputy Mayor Garien Gatewood.
” The summers just getting started”, Yancy said. ” I do n’t want to talk about the pain it’s caused in our community in front of another group of microphones.” Only the violence must end, I suppose.
Lemon struggled to explain his anguish Thursday.
” I’m clear inside but at the same time, I’m hurt, I’m shattered”, he said. ” You always know when it’s your family’s next day or your boy’s next time. I only realized that today”.
