A genuine trailblazer’s passing is mourned by the fashion industry. Renauld White, the first African National type to grace the cover of GQ magazine, has died. He was 80.
Jeffrey Banks, a devoted companion and custom, confirmed White’s passing on Wednesday. He was under hospice care in New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital. No cause of death was given.
White appeared on the cover of the men’s publication in November 1979, breaking ground for American Black man designs. The Newark native was the second Black type to ever appear on the movie’s support and worked in displays for makers including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Armani and Cerutti.
The Rutgers University alum also had acting credits, including the roles in” Gun Hill” and” Central Park,” after two years on the CBS soap opera” The Guiding Light.” In 1998, he appeared on the sheets of Essence, Ebony, and other artists ‘ albums, including” Julius Caesar Set in Africa,” which was released at Nuyorican Poets Cafe. His career began in the early 1970s.
White, who was featured in Dolce &, Gabbana’s 2023 battle killed by Steven Meisel, closed out his lengthy job on a great word, gracing the February 2024 support of Ambassador Digital Magazine.
” We celebrated our 80th problem with Renauld on the handle for his 80th birthday”, Ambassador’s editor- in- general Musa Jackson told The Daily News on Monday. He and I were close friends for a while, but it was a great honor for him to participate in our final include photo capture. He was but delicate and was still playing a good match in his later years. On July 12th, White’s death service will take place at Whigham Funeral Home in his town of Newark, New Jersey.
