In a move allegedly made by a dominant conservative legal group, Northwestern University’s law school intentionally avoided hiring very qualified white female legal scholars in an effort to create a more diverse faculty base in violation of federal anti-discrimination laws.
The 32-page issue, which was filed on July 2, was made by the America First Legal Foundation, alleging Northwestern is a perfect example of corruption and lawlessness when university hires at American universities.
It claims that the Northwestern legislation leadership has “promoted and enforced a mandate to get as many non-white and non-male faculty applicants as possible” for the past 12 years.
Even” superstar researchers” like Eugene Volokh have been turned down in favor of individuals with poor and unremarkable records, according to the complaint.
Volokh, a white man, “is a prolific and internationally renowned constitutional scholar whose scientific works, especially on the First Amendment, are often cited by plaintiffs, judges, and researchers”, the lawsuit says.
” He served as a law professor at UCLA for 30 years. He is a member of the American Law Institute, co-founder of one of the most well-known legitimate websites in the world, and the Supreme Court of the United States has frequently cited his job. He is also a former laws clerk for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor”, it states.
Yet the Northwestern faculty hiring committee did n’t even give Volokh an interview when he expressed interest in a work there during the 2022- 23 academic year, even though he was supported by many of Northwestern’s law university, it states.
Volokh, in an internet Sunday to The College Fix, confirmed the problem, but added he is aware of whether bias played a part.
” Some Northwest students and I did discuss the possibility of moving it from UCLA, but nothing came out of that.” But that ends up happening often in such situations, for a wide range of reasons, and I do n’t know exactly what the actual reasons here were”, he said.
He continued, noting that he has retired from full-time training and is now professor emeritus at UCLA.” I am really happy in my new full-time research status as a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford,” he continued.
” It will be interesting to see what, if anything, this petition discloses. But like everyone else, I’ll get a spectator on that, too,” Volokh said.
The College Fix contacted The College Fix to request opinion on the issue, but neither Northwestern University nor America First Legal have already responded.
Northwestern University is “proud” of the law school, according to a spokeswoman for the institution, and plans to fight back against the accusations.
The Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, according to a statement from a Northwestern University spokesman Jon Yates to ABC News, is one of the nation’s leading law institutions. We” will vigorously defend this situation,” the statement read.
The plaintiffs are Faculty, Alumni, and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences, an institution formed” for the purpose of restoring democracy in education and fighting competition and sex preferences that superior scientific merit to therefore- called diversity considerations”, the suit states.
Three unidentified light, adult legal scholars are suing Northwestern Law School as plaintiffs, alleging they would apply there despite the school’s alleged discriminatory hiring practices.
The lawsuit illustrates with clear charts how just three of the 21 job offers at Northwestern’s law school over the past three getting processes have been made to white people.
Two of the three adult legal experts who were offered were even working in the high-demand, low-demand area of tax laws, which, according to the article, has a dearth of female and black experts.
Additionally, the lawsuit claims that, in addition to Volokh, some white men who had significantly higher academic qualifications were denied jobs at the law school in favor of people with lower credentials, citing numerous instances.
The petition details how two dark woman academics were hired by Northwestern despite their lack of formal training before failing to live up to expectations and stopping teaching it.
Additionally, according to the lawsuit, university were told to vote for a black woman professor in one occasion while being threatened with losing their monthly prizes.
The no- bright- males hiring mandate “directs Northwestern Law School to consciously and deliberately discriminate in favor of ebony, Hispanic, Asian, feminine, homosexual, and transgender faculty candidates, and against white men who are heterosexual and non- transgender”, the lawsuit alleges.
Candidates with preferred identities are given significant advantages and favored over white men who have far more impressive academic and professional credentials and vastly superior publication records, according to the lawsuit.
It gives an illustration of a female black scholar with a subpar academic record who was lured to the university with a$ 900,000 budget to launch a Center for Racial and Disability Justice in 2022.
No other faculty hire in Northwestern Law School’s recent history has ever received a budget of this nature. The article claims that the black woman was hired because the candidate was “was hired over white male candidates who are vastly more capable and qualified than she is” and that there are far more accomplished scholars on the faculty than none of them have ever been offered a$ 900,000 center to run.
Yet in the time since, the center has only hosted two events, one of which was the launch.
” In two years ,]the ]$ 900, 000 center has made no contributions whatsoever to academic life at Northwestern University. The lawsuit claims that Northwestern is continuing to waste money on this pointless center to profit from an affirmative action hire who allegedly did n’t deserve her appointment.
The suit also alleges the Northwestern University Law Review, the institution’s preeminent scholarly journal, is engaged in discrimination.
The Northwestern University Law Review‘s student editors give racial minorities, homosexuals, and transgender people discriminatory preferences when choosing their members and editors, it claims. This practice goes against the unequivocal rules of Title VI and Title IX.
The Northwestern University Law Review‘s student editors also give discriminatory treatment to articles written by women, racial minorities, homosexuals, or transgender people, while rejecting much better articles written by white men.
