WEST GLACIER MONTANA: Two people drowned in Glacier National Park over the July 4 holiday weekend, area officials said.
A 26-year-old Indian man was hiking on the Avalanche Lake Trail on Saturday night when he slipped on mountains and was engulfed in the warm, fast-moving water. Witnesses witnessed him come quickly under before being swept through a small gorge at around 8:30 am.
The man’s body was discovered under in the valley, according to a plane team and park guards, but they believe his body was buried beneath the surface. The river is rumbling as a result of runoff from snow. The search effort has been reduced and guards are monitoring the region, according to area officials, because of poor rankings and dangerous conditions.
The person was visiting a park with friends in California while he was both at home and working.
On Saturday night, a 28- yr- aged man from Nepal was swimming with buddies in Lake McDonald near Sprague Creek Campground. According to friends, he was an uneducated diver. He was about 30 yards ( 27 meters ) from shore when he started to struggle and went underwater at about 6: 25 pm.
The river is shallower near the edge, but the man’s location caused a significant drop-off, according to area spokesperson Gina Icenoggle. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office dive team recovered his brain in 35 to 40 feet ( 11 to 12 feet ) of ocean at about 8: 20 p.
The gentleman was living and working in Portland, Oregon, and was on vacation with friends.
Nepal and India consulates have been in contact with park officials for assistance in reaching the victims ‘ families. Their brands have not been released.
According to authorities, drowning is Glacier National Park’s leading cause of death.
