Since Islamabad last year announced a relocation plan for what it called “undocumented creatures,” the mind of the UN refugee agency Filippo Grandi met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday to discuss the situation of thousands of Afghan migrants living in doubt. During his conference with Grandi, Commissioner of the UNHCR, Sharif urged the international community to accept the “burden of Afghan refugees” being faced by Pakistan and show” social duty” to deal with the issue, the Dawn newspapers reported.
On Sunday, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR ) made its three-day visit to Pakistan.
The prime minister emphasized that the international community must acknowledge the problem that Pakistan is shouldering with its huge refugee population and show social responsibility, according to a declaration from the PM’s workplace.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ( PML-N) president added that despite many obstacles, the nation had hosted Afghan migrants with remarkable respect and dignity.
Sharif appealed to UNHCR’s assistance in obtaining sufficient funds to support Pakistan’s efforts in this regard, and demanded that the international immigrant organization play a key role in developing long-term solutions to the Afghan refugee situation.
According to the Prime Minister, the global community must be aware of Pakistan’s socio-economic problems and security risks.
The UN High Commissioner further stated that the country had been providing for millions of Afghan refugees with its generosity and hospitality for the past several decades and that UNHCR do continue to work with Pakistan to meet the country’s fundamental needs.
In November of last year, Pakistan began the first round of relocation of what it called “undocumented creatures.”
According to advised options, half a million refugees to Afghanistan returned via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the first round, despite no established information being released as to how many of the estimated illegal Afghans have left since November.
On Monday, Grandi met with Pakistan’s Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Amir Muqam, and said that UNHCR may organise a global speech, most good in October, to explore refugee-related problems, the Dawn said.
” Pakistan would be particularly invited at this occasion”, the UNHCR commander said. He expressed his desire that the event will give immigrants ‘ needs and assist a whole new dimension.
There are now 1.45 million registered Afghan people, which does not include many unlicensed Afghan migrants and other nationals, according to national minister Muqam.
He added that the collapse in growth funds for Afghan refugees ‘ having areas in Pakistan was a “matter of problem.”
” We need exclusive, generous and sustainable interventions”, he said.
Grandi also addressed deputy prime minister Ishaq Dar on Monday, and the foreign ministry acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts and contributions to welcoming Afghan refugees for decades.
