Trump suggests natural accounts for college graduates who want to be in America.
Donald Trump’s recent statement, which the Republican presidential candidate has been met with mixed reviews from his base, suggested that international graduates of American universities should automatically be eligible for a clean card.
Former President Trump made his comments June 20 on the radio” All-In”, which covers issues such as the economy, technology, and politicians. According to social observers, the policy benefits businesses and the economy while deterring border hawks.
The pro-free business editorial board at The Wall Street Journal praised the proposal, arguing in a team newspaper the U. S. “does n’t train enough local engineers and scientists in particular, given the decades-long loss of public K-12 knowledge”.
In a June 23 editor, the traditional newspaper of record stated that the United States needs foreign ability to compete with China, which is” running ahead” in some high-tech and scientific fields.” The United States needs foreign ability to compete with China.
But Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, called it a” a cockamamie plan” in a June 21 speech to the New York Post, suggesting it would launch a “firehose of unusual funds” into institutions by” stapling a green cards to the diploma”.
And Jeremy Beck, vice president of Numbers USA, which advocates for restricting immigration, echoed similar sentiments, telling the Washington Post:” You’d turn schools into visa mill”.
Eric Ruark, director of research at Numbers USA, added the plan had upset U. S. people.
In a telephone interview with The College Fix on Tuesday, he said,” It would add hundreds of thousands of additional people to the labor market every year, and that’s going to put a downward pressure on wages.”
Ruark claimed that the plan would also increase the competition between American university applicants and foreigners because international students typically pay full tuition.
Ruark argued that this is not a wise decision when establishing a system that benefits Americans. He pointed out that, on the radio, Trump “was speaking to a group of Silicon Valley CEOs”, and more important, possible “donors”.
The California Immigrant Policy Center, which supports immigration, did not respond to a request for comment from The College Fix.
The audio interview on June 20 provided the spark for the discussion, in which host Jason Calicanis questioned whether Trump had “promise us you will provide more ability to buy the best and brightest around the world to America.”
” I do promise”, Trump replied, adding the U. S. loses some talented international university graduates because they often must return to their home state, such as China, he said.
” It’s so sad when we lose people from Harvard, MIT, from the greatest schools — and lesser schools that are phenomenal also”, Trump said.
In 2020 and 2021, 4.6 percentage of university students were international, 35 percent of whom came from China. Another 18 percentage came from India, according to the Pew Research Center.
A green cards, or Permanent Resident Card, allows non-U. Permanent employment and resale of property by Americans Now, fast friends of U. S. people, refugees and asylum-seekers may qualify for a clean cards. Migrant staff or a green card lottery, known as the Diversity Visa Lottery, can even win a clean card.
Some spectators have questioned whether Trump, if elected, may actually work to pass a similar plan.
Trump, the president’s four times, “never proposed increasing the entrance of college-educated refugees or granting automated green cards to all international students who have graduated from U.S. colleges,” according to Forbes ‘ June 23 report. ” His management enacted several restrictions on H-1B card holders and employment-based refugees, including prohibiting their access in 2020″.
But in a statement released soon after the audio aired, Trump’s strategy press secretary Karoline Leavitt said:” President Trump has outlined the most violent evaluating process in U. S. history, to remove all communists, extreme Islamists, Hamas supporters, America haters and common charges. He thinks that we should only continue to employ the most qualified graduates who can make significant contributions to the United States after such screening.
” This would only apply to college graduates who have undergone the most thorough checks and who have never subdued American wages or workers.”
After saying she would” staple” a green card to foreign college graduates ‘ diplomas if the graduate received a master’s or PhD in science or technology, Hillary Clinton discussed a similar proposal in 2016.
Trump also discussed his plans to improve border security on the podcast, and criticized the flow of migrants through the southern border during President Joe Biden’s term.
” We have been overrun, it’s an invasion of our country”, Trump said. ” Many people come out of jails and prisons, they come out of mental institutions, insane asylums, and we have terrorists coming into our country at a level we have never seen before”.
