A parents in southwestern China’s Yulin has sparked controversy after punishing his 3-year-old child, nicknamed Jiajia, for increased television viewing. The father called his child to the table while preparing dinner, but she was too absorbed in a TV show to discover him.
Angered, the parents turned off the broadcast, causing Jiajia to weep. He then gave her a large empty bowl and said,” You can watch TV again when your tears fill up this bowl.” According to a report from the South China Morning Post, the girl’s mother found a picture of Jiajia holding the plate under her mouth while trying to gather her weeping and squeezing her eye to create more.
After more than ten seconds, Jiajia complained that she had gotten tired of holding the pitcher and that it was difficult to finish.
The child grinning with tears on her face was then asked by the father to laugh, which surprised Jiajia’s parents. The film, posted on Douyin, went popular, garnering 220, 000 loves and mixed reactions from people. While some found Jiajia wonderful, others criticised the family’s parenting approach.
