A passenger, Tahjana Lewis, has filed a complaint against JetBlue, seeking damages amounting to$ 1.5 million for severe burns allegedly caused by a cup of “scalding hot” tea served during a turbulent flight. The event reportedly took place on May 15 aboard Aircraft 2237 from Florida’s Orlando to Connecticut’s Hartford.
According to a report from ABC News, the complaint filed on June 24, claimed that the drink was served while the “fasten seat belt” mark was turned on due to ongoing turmoil, a choice described as “dangerous and dangerous” given the circumstances.
Lewis, who was seated straight behind the customer who ordered the drink, reportedly suffered from” severe” and “disfiguring” burn on her upper chest, chest, arms, left hips, and right shoulder, resulting in “disfigurement and bruising on all five burn-affected parts”.
Edward Jazlowiecki, Lewis ‘ attorney, called JetBlue’s decision to serve coffee during what he described as” serious” turbulence “gross negligence”. He also asserted that Lewis was never given enough help by the airline, saying that the team did not inquire whether there were doctors on board, did not make an emergency landing, and that they did not ask for assistance until she disembarked the plane.
The complaint claims that JetBlue served the tea “at a warmth that was excessively and extremely hot beyond what is accepted in the food service industry or flight business.” According to Jazlowiecki, Lewis experienced second-degree and perhaps third-degree fires, which may require body transplantation. She soon consulted a skin professional and sought medical attention in the emergency room immediately following the journey.
The complaint claims that Lewis ‘ ability to work has been limited and that she has suffered mental harm as well as the actual pain and partial disability that she has experienced. Jazlowiecki even mentioned that the affair was “extremely horrific” for Lewis ‘ 5-year-old girl, who was travelling with her at the moment.
