
After a blaze at a West Oakland townhouse on Friday night, one person died and 19 others were evacuated, according to authorities.
The 39-year-old person who passed away was not instantly known pending the notification of his home.
The flames started about , 3: 15 a. m. Friday  , at a two-story Victorian that had been converted into a condo in the 1200 block of , 12th Street, authorities said.
The people displaced — 12 youths and seven people — , were ready to get out on their own, authorities said. They were being assisted by the , Red Cross.
The person who died , was found unconscious from dust ingestion in an apartment location by rescuers and brought outside the house, said fire department spokesman , Michael Hunt. He was taken to a doctor where he was later declared dead.
The fireplace was brought under control at , 3: 47 a. m.  , by 25 rescuers, Hunt said. No additional injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was an electronic problem, Hunt said.
A harm estimate was not instantly available.
