Jul. 14—Gov. Josh Shapiro, a former fire captain killed trying to protect his home at a Saturday rally for the Trump campaign, announced on Sunday that he had ordered the state’s banners to travel at half mast.
The government, in a press conference held in , Butler, asked for prayers for the home of , Corey Comperatore , as well as for those of the two different fans thoroughly injured in what authorities are investigating as an assassination attempt on previous President , Donald Trump. The , GOP , candidate was rushed from the step with blood streaming across his mouth, but later said he was “fine”.
Mr. Shapiro , said early Sunday afternoon that he’d spoken with , Mr. Comperatore ‘s , wife and daughters.
” Corey was a girl-dad. Corey was a fire. Corey went to church every Sunday”, the governor said, noting that he’d sought agreement from , Helen Comperatore , to reveal their conversation. ” He was so excited last night to be there with]Trump ] and the community”.
He said , Ms. Comperatore , wanted everyone to know that her father died a hero. He claimed that Corey “dived on his home at this rally last night to protect them.”
Mr. Comperatore , was the original commander of the , Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company. Buffalo Township Supervisor , Michael Oehling , even noted in an email to the , Post-Gazette , that , Mr. Comperatore , died while “protecting his wife and daughters”.
” He was an incredible man”, he said.
Before, in individual social media posts, his household mourned their reduction.
” The PA , Trump Rally , claimed the life of my brother,  , Corey Comperatore”, posted , Dawn Comperatore Schafer , on Twitter. The one person we loved the most was taken to death by the hatred for one man.
” He was a warrior that shielded his sons. His family and his young daughters simply endured the unbelievable and the unthinkable. My child brother only turned 50, and there was still so much to experience. Like has no boundaries, and goat has no boundaries. Pray for my sister-in-law, sisters, my mother, girl, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a bad headache but we know it is our painful truth.”
Trump was about 10 days into his speech at the Butler Farm Show basis about , 6: 15 p. m.  , when gunfire erupted and he was rushed off period. Eventually, the former president confirmed in online statements that a bullet had pierced his hearing by later confirming that he had a terrible wound around his right ear.
Thousands of supporters had been waiting for the president’s looks, in advance of the , Republican National Convention , in , Milwaukee , this year.
Officials after said one march goer was killed, and two people were wounded.
The two patients being treated at , Allegheny General Hospital , have not been identified by authorities.  , Mr. Shapiro , said he had spoken to one of the individuals and reached out to the other one, although he declined to say more.
In statements on Facebook,  , Mr. Comperatore ‘s , wife and daughter described a chaotic scene in which he tried to protect his family.
His daughter,  , Allyson Comperatore, wrote that her parents died” a real-life superhero,” who immediately threw her and her family to the floor when gunfire started at the march.
He protected my system from the gun that struck us. He loved his home. He really loved us, and he even drilled a hole in our hearts,” she wrote.
His family claimed that the march was meant to raise awareness.
” Monday, what turned out to be quite an exciting time for my father particularly, turned into a dream for our home,”  , Ms. Comperatore , wrote in a Twitter post”. What my beautiful ladies had to see is terrible. What I had to was.”
” He died the warrior he often was.”
Steven Warheit, who referred to , Mr. Comperatore , as a stepson on Facebook, posted that he is” without thoughts. He claimed that the two may go hunting and fishing up when they were younger. He called their thoughts” limitless.”
” Corey Comperatore , was a wonderful man that loved his family strongly and did the same with heaven, “he wrote”. A real heart of gold.”
Some even used social media platforms Sunday to honor , Mr. Comperatore.
” He was a fire. Why is it that he had a sense of danger in his own system? “wrote , Bob Bellafiore, a political connections planner in a blog on X.
Mr. Comperatore , was an expert at JSP, according to his LinkedIn profile.
FBI , Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge , Kevin Rojek , offered” heartfelt condolences to the family of Comperatore, who was a observer and was killed at the picture as well as the other victims ‘ people.”
A , GoFundMe , to support the Comperatore family was set up on Sunday has now raised more than$ 151, 000, skyrocketing above the goal set for$ 7, 000.
