As crime persisted on college campuses in the world’s capital and abroad on Tuesday due to a state work quota system, at least 5 people were killed and dozens were hurt in two separate incidents in Bangladesh, according to media reports quoting officials. At least three of the dead were pedestrians and three were kids. Another man who died remained unexplained.
A common university close to Dhaka reported the deaths after nighttime of violent at the scene. Kids and authorities reported that during the conflicts that broke out at Jahangir Nagar University in Savar, officers shot tear gas and baton-charged activists. Activists have been demanding an ending to a limit reserved for home users of soldiers who fought in Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence, which allows them to take up 30 % of state work. They claim that limit appointments may be based on merit rather than discrimination. Each month, 3, 000 careers open up to 400, 000 graduates.
Hasina argued on Tuesday that regardless of their recent political outlooks, war veterans should be treated with the greatest respect for their sacrifice. ” Abandoning the vision of their own life, leaving behind their communities, families and all, they joined the war with whatever they had …”, she said in Dhaka.
Tuesday evening, the education ministry mandated school closures across the country.
On Monday, assault even spread at Dhaka University, the country’s leading people school, as clashes gripped the school in the money. Over 100 individuals were injured in the clashes, police said. Tuesday, activists across the nation slowed down roads and railroads. They halted transportation in some areas of Dhaka as they vowed to continue demonstrating until demands were met.
