Vietnam’s Communist Party key Nguyen Phu Trong has died at the age of 80 after protracted condition, state media reported. He held the country’s most prominent place for 13 years. No additional details were provided.
To Lam, the party’s chairman, took over Trong’s duties on Thursday after the party declared that the aging head should prioritize health care.
Although Vietnam actually has no major king, Soviet-educated Trong, as celebration general secretary, was the most prominent number in the Communist-ruled country and had held the position since 2011.
Trong secured a second term in 2021 after a law banning incumbents from holding two office posts was upheld, demonstrating his strength and important political influence in a celebration that has ruled Vietnam for almost half a decade.
In recent months, he appeared delicate in public situations and missed numerous top-level meetings.
After the death of Trong, the party must then choose whether Lam will continue to serve as acting party general secretary until 2026, or if a new candidate may emerge from its ranks sooner.
In 2017, Marxist-Leninist thinker Trong initiated a China-style assault on problem, known as the “blazing oven”. Under this campaign, hundreds of officers were investigated for bone, and many were forced to resign, including government ministers, a parliament chair, and two position president.
Lam, a former head of the strong domestic safety company, was a vital figure and supporter of that strategy. He was elected president in May after his predecessor resigned amid allegations of unknown wrong.
