On Wednesday, Typhoon Gaemi and the west monsoon rains extreme flooding that ravaged the country’s capital, Manila, and significant portions of Luzon Island. According to the Xinhua news agency, the government has begun emergency and suspended schools and offices as a result of the downpours, which have caused knee-deep flood in some areas.
Local government worked to ensure security in the flood-affected parts, prompting residents to evacuate Manila Bay and rivers. The regional capital region’s poor quality of state offices were the result of the closure of all levels of education and the expulsion of classes. Additionally, the House of Representatives and the Spanish Senate had their periods canceled for the day.
At least 16 planes were canceled on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Due to the storms, stranding travellers, and halting customers, many roads in the capital region became inaccessible. When attempting to understand the buried streets, some vehicles stalled.
A farmhouse town close to Manila Bay has been destroyed, as well as the extensive damage caused by the typhoon. A 14-year-old child was reported missing while wading through the waters in Rizal state, south of Manila, despite the government’s unofficial confirmation of any fatalities related to the flood.
Typhoon Gaemi increased as it moved northwestward over the Philippine Sea, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration ( PAGASA ). Its wind speed and gust rate reached 155 km/h. The organization warned that Gaemi may continue to produce large rain on Wednesday, with the possibility of more flooding and landslides brought on by rain.
Components of the Visayas area and north Mindanao are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall until Friday due to the west rain, which is further strengthened by Gaemi.
By Wednesday evening or early Thursday, Typhoon Gaemi, the next big surprise to hit the Philippines this time, is expected to leave. The Philippines, with an average of 20 storms periodically, remains highly susceptible to tropical storms that bring big rains, flooding, and strong breezes, leading to significant deaths and harm to crops and properties.
