Salman Rushdie, a writer from Mumbai, has publicly supported Kamala Harris ‘ nomination for president of the United States, expressing his opinion that she will prevent former US president Donald Trump from authoritarian rule.
Rushdie made his support during a virtual celebration hosted by’ South Asian Men for Harris,’ which featured a host of important numbers from the Indian-American area, including lawmakers, authors, plan experts, and entrepreneurs. The occasion was noteworthy for its big turnout and passionate support for Harris.
” It’s a crucial time. I’m a child from Bombay, and it’s fantastic to see an American woman running for the White House. And my wife is African-American, but we appreciate that a Black and Indian lady is in the competition”, Rushdie said during the event.
Following President Joe Biden’s departure from the competition on July 20, Harris, 59, is the Democratic nominee for president. Next month, the Democratic Party is expected to actually confirm her as a member.
Rushdie, a 77-year-old British-American writer, acknowledged that while race alone is not enough to secure a triumph, Harris’s nomination represents something revolutionary and cheerful in American politics. He reaffirmed his conviction that Harris ‘ presence has substantially influenced the political conversation in a positive way.
Rushdie strongly criticized Trump, referring to him as a “hollow person” attempting to move the nation towards authoritarianism. He emphasized that Harris is the member who can withstand this risk. ” I’m 1, 000 percent in for her”, Rushdie declared.
