Georgia’s largest opposition party, the United National Movement, may send a complaint against the provocative “foreign agent” rules to the Constitutional Court on July 29, the party has told RFE/RL’s Greek Service.

On July 22, 32 opposition politicians signed the petition.

Salome Zurabishvili, the president of Georgia and a vehement critique of the legislation, filed a lawsuit against the bill with the Constitutional Court on July 16.

Zurabishvili vetoed the laws in May, but the country’s congress, which is dominated by the ruling Georgian Dream group, overrode her reject.

It was passed into law on June 4th, and it has put the nation’s desires on hold for membership in the EU at risk.
