UN report: Thousands of Palestinians detained, tortured, and killed in Israeli custody

The UN Human Rights Office recently released a statement that raised grave questions about the treatment of hundreds of Palestinians who have been held in Israel and forced to leave Gaza since October 7 and who have been detained there. The statement, released on Tuesday, alleges that several prisoners have been subjected to severe abuse, including rape, with dozens officially dying in custody.
    alleged misuse and forced confinement
Numerous Palestinians were taken at gates as they fled the continuous military rude, according to the 23-page report, which was based on interviews with detainees, sufferers, and witnesses who had been detained for the duration. The document describes harrowing circumstances, including prisoners being blindfolded, shackled, and transported to Israel in” cage-like” military facilities, where they were usually left wearing little but babies for extended periods.
According to the UN statement, 53 inmates have died while being held by Israel. The gathered testimony points to a number of abhorrent functions, including interrogation, the use of dogs on prisoners, and other forms of abuse that are against international human rights and humanitarian rules.
The findings were made by UN High Commissioner Volker Turk, who stated,” The statements gathered by my Office and various institutions show a number of horrific functions that are flagrantly against international human rights and humanitarian law.” Turkey has demanded that all prisoners who were held hostage during the Israeli attacks on October 7 be immediately released along with the rest.
    Jewish response and foreign reactions
The Israeli army has stated that it is looking into allegations of detention mistreatment, but it has not commented on certain cases. The Sde Teiman station in the Negev plain, which has been cited by both Israeli right organizations and the UN as a page of alleged abuse, has also been announced by the military’s plans to step out.
The problem with inmate treatment is putting pressure on Israel’s actions in Gaza even more acutely. The U.S. State Department stated that it was looking into the matter in May when it became aware of claims that Israelis had abused Israeli prisoners. Right-wing protesters in Israel broke into military installations this year as part of an investigation into reported abuse of a Palestinian defendant as a result of the complaints.
Dire problems for inmates and hostages
The report highlights the dire problems faced by Israeli prisoners, who are mostly men and boys, and include occupants, physicians, nurses, and individuals, as well as captured Arab fighters. Although the report does not describe the number of instances, there have also been sexual assault allegations. The prisoners were typically kept secret, with no explanation of their circumstances or access to legal counsel.
The document also mentions the challenging situations that Israeli victims in Gaza have to endure, using testimony from those who have been freed. These victims reportedly suffered from a lack of fresh air, sunshine, and were subjected to stabbings.
continued issues and calls for action
A UN director claimed it was impossible to calculate the actual number of detainees who had been released, despite the UN report, which was shared with both the Israeli authorities and the Israeli authorities.
