Nine of its own troops are being investigated by the Israeli government for allegedly abusing detainees at a detention facility in southeastern Israel.

In an emailed statement, the Israeli military said it was looking into allegations of” substantial abuse” at Sde Teiman, Israel’s largest prison detention facility. The Jewish Military Advocate General’s Corps was instructed to look into allegations of abuse against one inmate, according to the email statement.

On July 29, the Israeli army said it detained nine defendants for questioning, but it provided some more specifics about the abuse complaints.

The arrests came as a result of allegations that some soldiers had sexually abused a Palestinian inmate at the facility, according to Nati Rom, an attorney for some of the detained soldiers. According to reports from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East ( UNRWA ), soldiers at Sde Teiman allegedly slammed sticks and hot objects into the anus of at least one male detainee as a form of torture. UNRWA even shared stories of Israeli soldiers pinching their breasts, covering their genitalia, and stripping Arab women of their religious attire.

Rom refuted the accusations made against his customers.

Local Jewish residents attempted to enter the confinement facility and obstruct military officers conducting the prosecutions, which sparked a fight.

” It is extremely concerning and against the law to break into the Sde Teiman bottom.” Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the head of the Jewish military, called the incident “grave behavior that is unacceptable in any way” by breaking into a military base and disrupting the order it. ” We are at war, and our country’s security is threatened by this kind of behavior.”

Halevi pledged his full support for the military’s investigation into the mistreatment claims.

According to Halevi,” These studies specifically safeguard the values of the [ Israel Defense Forces ] and our men in Israel and around the world,”

Following their detention, the detained Jewish troops were transferred from Sde Teiman to the Beit Lid military base. In an ostensible protest against the detention, activists once more raided that next Israeli military installation on Monday.

To put a stop to the breach, Israeli troops sent more troops to Beit Lid. On Monday, Halevi issued a second criticism statement.

The Israeli military president claimed that the introduction of rioters and attempted break-ins into the bases was “grave violation of the law” and that it constituted “aggression against the law” that would harm the IDF, state security, and the fight against impunity.

According to Israeli military sources, Times of Israel’s Emanuel Fabian reported that Israeli forces ‘ ideas for attacks in Lebanon have been hampered by the breaches at Israeli military installations.
