Oil costs dropped slightly lower on Thursday than they did at the beginning of July, beginning the month of August.
According to AAA, the average cost per gallon of regular gas in the nation was$ 3.483 on the first day of the month. This was a small decrease from Wednesday, the last day in July. The average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline was$ 3.491; however, this is a slight decrease from that same month.
Prior to the 2024 presidential election, oil prices will still be a significant issue. Vice President Kamala Harris, the likely Democratic candidate, will have to state how she will handle the nation’s high gas prices and energy costs as well as how they may affect both the economy and the people’s finances as President Joe Biden decides not to run for president.
Pricing fluctuated in 2024, but they have decreased over the past few weeks and months. However, fuel prices are still considerably higher than they were during the administration of former US President Donald Trump.

Washington, D. C.
To start the month of August, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the nation’s capital was $3.701. This was an increase from the last day in July, when the cost was $3.692. Regular gas is, however, less expensive in Washington, D. C. than a week ago when the average price was $3.71 per gallon. Prices are more expensive, however, than a month ago, when drivers in the district paid $3.665 per gallon.
Virginia
In Virginia, the average cost for a gallon of regular-grade oil was$ 3.357 to start the next whole fortnight of summer. This decreased from Thursday’s average price of$ 3.369 per gallon. Gasoline prices are also less costly in the position than a week ago when regular-grade oil was$ 3.415 per gallon. Prices, however, are more expensive then compared to a fortnight ago when the price for a gallon of regular was$ 3.328.
Maryland
On August 1st, Maryland‘s average gas price was$ 3.455. This is a lower from the previous evening of July, when regular gas cost$ 3.34 per gallon on average. Prices are also less expensive than a week ago, when the price was$ 3.503 per gallon. Additionally, today’s prices are lower than they were a month ago when Maryland residents paid$ 3. 563 for a gallon of regular gas.
Delaware
The average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline was$ 3.366 in Delaware on Thursday. The cost of the primary state’s first day in July, which was the average one, decreased to$ 3.372. This is less expensive than it was a week ago, when the average price was$ 3. 409. Since a fortnight ago, oil prices in the First State have drastically decreased, paying$ 3. 502 for a gallon of regular gasoline.

Mississippi
Mississippi continues to be the position with the lowest gas costs. Beginning in August, Mississippi‘s average gallon of regular gasoline cost$ 2.968. The only state in the country offering regular gas for less than$ 3 is in this state.
Hawaii
The position with the most expensive gasoline in the country, which averages$ 4. 669 per gallon for regular oil on Thursday. Hawaii late overtook California for the dubious distinction of having the state with the most costly fuel prices for a gallon of regular fuel, leaving Hawaii with higher gasoline prices than California. In California, a gallon of regular gasoline averaged$ 4.646 on the first day of August.
